Both of these mats use the exact same foam core insulation. The woven fabric of the Camp Plus SI compresses the foam slightly more, which is why we list it as being slightly thinner. The main differences come down to the face fabrics:
Comfort Plus SI
-
Base: 30D woven polyester
-
Top: 30D stretch-knit polyester
-
The stretch knit feels more luxurious – cooler to the touch in warm weather, warmer in cool weather (similar to a flannel bedsheet)
-
Slightly heavier due to the fabric choice
Camp Plus SI
-
Base and top: 75D woven polyester
-
More durable than the stretch knit used on the Comfort Plus
-
Compresses a bit more, so it’s listed as slightly thinner
R-Value: The Camp Plus SI tests marginally higher than the Comfort Plus, but the difference is negligible in real world use.
Weight: The Comfort Plus is slightly heavier, but for car camping (the most common use for both mats), this isn’t a significant factor.
In summary:
-
Choose the Comfort Plus SI if you want maximum comfort and a softer, more premium feel.
-
Choose the Camp Plus SI if you want similar support and insulation but with a more tactile fabric.
