Are there any chemical treatments on the Escapist tarp? How do you clean and store an Escapist?

The Escapist Tarp is made from 15D nylon, with a polyurethane coating on the inside and siliconized finish on the outside. Like many siliconized fabrics (including Ultra-Sil Nano), the DWR finish may contain a small amount of PFCs.

The Escapist Tarp is not treated with flame retardants. In North America, flame-retardant treatments are only required for enclosed shelters like tents.

Cleaning your Escapist Tarp

  • For everyday use, cleaning isn’t usually necessary – a quick wipe with a damp sponge will remove dust.
  • In areas with heavy soot (such as burn scar zones), you may need to hand wash:
    • Use a large tub with warm water and a small amount of dish soap.
    • Rinse thoroughly.
    • Air dry completely before storing.

Storing your Escapist Tarp

  • Do not store the Escapist in its stuff sack long term. Any trapped moisture may compromise the polyurethane coating.
  • Instead, store it loosely folded in a dry, well ventilated space (not in a sealed container).
