Air loss in Aeros Pillows is most frequently due to a puncture, or an issue with the airproof barrier or one of the RF welds.

(most weld or airproof barrier issues are due to moisture from condensed breath remaining in the pillow during longer-term storage. For this reason, we recommend storing your Aeros Pillow unrolled with the valve open).

Aeros pillows can be quite tricky to repair, so replacement may be the best option. If the pillow was purchased from an authorized Sea to Summit reseller, this replacement would be covered by warranty.

The inside of the sleeping mat is open-cell foam; in essence, it is just like a bath sponge. If you were to squeeze a bath sponge flat in your hand, it would draw itself full of air once you released your grip. Exactly the same thing happens in a self-inflating mat, except that the 'sponge' has an airtight skin around it with a valve. Once the valve is opened, the foam core will draw air into the mat.

It is important to know that a self-inflating mat (regardless of brand) will not self-inflate to the degree of firmness necessary for sleeping on - you will always need to add a little extra air (either via mouth inflation or with a pump) to bring the mat up to the pressure you will want.

If you find that your self-inflating mat does not draw air into itself the first time it is used, here is what is happening:​

The sleeping mats are vacuum-packed at the factory to save on space and thus on shipping costs. This sometimes causes the individual cells of the foam to stick together, so that when the valve is opened for the first time, the mat may not inflate.

If you manually-inflate your mat (either by mouth or using a pump-sack), the cells inside will unstick and the mat will self-inflate the next time you use it

Pillow Lock patches come in the packaging of all of our sleeping mats (they are not included with the pillows)

Yes, you really do.

Water can seep through the roll-top closure of a dry sack/bag (regardless of brand), so double-bagging is a common sense measure to prevent your phone from getting wet or damaged. Relying on a single dry sack/bag, no matter how new it is or how well it has been taken care of, is not something we would recommend.

Roland Tyson started making outdoor gear on an old industrial sewing machine in his childhood bedroom in 1983, at the age of 17.

As a young outdoor enthusiast, Roland realized that he had a passion and a talent for creating cutting-edge outdoor equipment. Soon he was designing and manufacturing equipment for other Australian adventurers. After outfitting an unusual first ascent of Mt. Everest (a 700+ mile, 29,028 feet in elevation trek from sea level to a solo summit), Sea to Summit was born.

Roland’s drive to design the best, lightest and most durable equipment would take him farther into the remote Australian outback and eventually into the Himalayas. In these wild places, he could put his inventions to the ultimate test.

In 1993, Roland was joined by Penny Sanderson, who had spent six years at Australian Geographic. Her passion for exploration and innovation was a perfect fit for Sea to Summit. She and Roland began traveling several months out of each year; climbing, sailing, trekking, overlanding, biking and, everywhere they went, testing products and iterating design.

Sea to Summit quickly grew into a successful global brand, with Penny and Roland’s love of travel and design as the foundation.
